History of Berthoud's Farming Heritage Photo Exhibit

The history of Berthoud is deeply intertwined with agriculture. The town was simply the
trading center for farmers and their families. Today the fields are gradually giving way to
suburban tracts, obliterating the history and lifestyle. Most modern Berthoud people are
not connected to the soil, nor do they understand the process of farming.

The mission of the Berthoud Farm Project is to document our rich agricultural heritage
before it fades away. In 2003 the Berthoud Historical Society began collecting oral
histories, historical and contemporary photographs and artifacts from farmers and farm
families in the Berthoud area. Four calendars, numerous oral histories, and a photographic
exhibit and catalog are the results of those efforts.
