The dedication of the McCarty-Fickel Home was conducted by Virginia Mayo, Mark French, Teri Johnson, Dr. R.B. “Doc” Fickel, Tom Patterson and Anna
August 23, 2008, was a historic day for the Berthoud Historical Society as over 120 people gathered at the McCarty-Fickel Home to watch Dr. R.B. “Doc” Fickel present his home to the Society for use as the community’s first historic house museum.
Originally built at a cost of $10,000, the historic “Denver Square” structure had been the private residence of the McCarty and Fickel families since its construction in 1916.
Following speeches by Dr. Fickel, Berthoud Mayor Tom Patterson, Dr. David McCarty (grandson of Dr. D.W. McCarty who built the home in 1916), Berthoud Historical Society President Mark French, and McCarty-Fickel Home Director Teri Johnson, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted to mark the opening of the home as a museum.
Following the ceremony refreshments were served as Dr. Fickel personally greeted guests, many of whom congratulated him on his wonderful generosity to the Berthoud community.
