Captain Berthoud Looking Pretty—The front of the Carlson Building features a mural depicting Capt. E. L. Berthoud. Ironically Capt. Berthoud who was the community’s namesake, surveyed the rail route through the area in the 1870s but never lived in the community. The large likeness of Captain Berthoud received a “facelift” recently when it was restored by local artists.
Forever and a Day—On March 7, 2009, author and Berthoud Historical Society member Eric Jensen signed copies of his book, “Forever and a Day—The World War II Odyssey of an American Family,” at the Pioneer Museum. Jensen’s book, now available at the museum gift shop, is based on a large collection of letters that were exchanged between members of his family during World War II. Eric invites you to visit his website for more information on the book.

On April 25, 2009, volunteers from the Berthoud Tree Board planted burr oak trees in two new tree wells that were installed in the sidewalk in front of the Pioneer Museum during the Mountain Ave. construction project. Additional improvements in the area in front of the museum will eventually include benches and planters.
